Student Success Lab

The Student Success Lab in CSS 143 is open!

  • All ACDV B82 Reading, B83 Writing, B84 Math, and EDUC B80 Standardized Test Prep (0.5 unit) courses are fully back in the lab and are accessible through Canvas and Edmentum.
  • Students must come to CSS 143 to complete their orientations for their .5-unit courses.
  • All ACDV B82NC Reading, B83NC Writing, B84NC Math, and EDUC B80NC Standardized Test Prep “No Credit” courses are accessible both in lab and online, and are accessible through CANVAS and Edmentum.
  • Instructors can refer their students to CSS 143 or through knickell@bakersfieldcollege.edu to get access to No Credit content through Edmentum.
  • Students wanting access to TEAS and WorkKeys for Welding, email Kim Nickell or come to CSS 143

About the Student Success Lab

The Student Success Lab supports and contributes to the mission of Bakersfield College by offering a curriculum of developmental courses designed to remediate and lead students to college level courses. By being sensitive and responsive to the individual differences and diverse needs of transitional students seeking to achieve college-level skills in a variety of academic disciplines, the Student Success Lab promotes, encourages, and stimulates the personal, social, and intellectual growth of its student base through its commitment to the following goals and values:

  • Our belief in a holistic and comprehensive approach to learning and learners
  • Our belief that all student learners have different talents and backgrounds
  • Our commitment to identify these diversities in order to foster a supportive, student-centered atmosphere that encourages student academic success

Lab Hours

Fall and Spring Semesters

  • Monday - Thursday: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
  • Friday: 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM or Zoom

Summer Semester

  • Monday - Thursday: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Friday: Closed

Reading Skills Course

The SS Lab offers a 0.5 unit Reading Skills Course, ACDV B82.

Course Description: This course is graded as credit/no credit only. To receive credit, you must complete the assignment schedule in your syllabus with mastery (80%) and satisfactorily complete 8 offline activities.

Recommended Skills: Since the assignments for this course are primarily computer-based, students should have basic computer skills (being able to access their campus email, log in and off of a computer, use a computer mouse, open files, and exit programs).

Course Materials: There are no books to buy, but please bring headphones or earbuds.

Writing Skills Course

The SS Lab offers a 0.5 unit Writing Skills Course, ACDV B83.
