Welcome to Student Employment

The Career Education Department and Office of Student Employment is open!

The Student Employment Department, located in FACE 16, serves Bakersfield College students, graduates and alumni with employment resources for on and off campus opportunities.

For those who are not sure what kind of employment to seek, career counseling is offered through the Bakersfield College Counseling and Advising Department. To make an appointment and find additional resources, visit the Career Counseling page.

Register for Bakersfield College Jobspeaker

Students looking for employment should follow these steps:

  1. Create an account on Jobspeaker.
  2. Apply online from a computer or the mobile application via smart phone.
  3. When actively job seeking, check your Jobspeaker account often; all interactions, including the scheduling of your interview, will be done through the online system.

On-Campus Student Employment

Students seeking employment on-campus can continue to apply for jobs through Jobspeaker, but can anticipate a delay in the process. Should you have any questions, please email studentemployment@bakersfieldcollege.edu.

Current On-campus Student Employees

Bakersfield College departments are working with all student employees to utilize assistance as needed. Please communicate directly with your supervisor for specific details.

Bakersfield College employs students to work part-time in many departments on campus while attending college. Job types vary and an effort is made to locate work related to your major or occupational goal. Employment is not guaranteed, you must apply online and be interviewed by the department to be offered a student employee position. All employment positions for Bakersfield College main campus, Weill Institute and Delano Center are posted on Jobspeaker as "on-campus" jobs.

To apply on-campus, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled at Bakersfield College in 6 units for fall and spring semesters, 2 units for the summer session
  • Have Federal Work Study (if required by the department)? - visit Financial Aid for more information
  • Register for Jobspeaker and create a profile
  • Attach a completed resume
  • Complete the application in its entirety with 3 full references; including full name, full address and phone number

Applying for jobs no longer requires a mandatory appointment, but if you have any questions, or would like to schedule an appointment with a Job Development Specialist to review your resume or interview skills, please contact the Student Employment office at (661) 395-4550.

Off-Campus Employment

The Student Employment Center assists students in finding part-time and full-time employment located off-campus while attending college or upon graduation. We make an effort to locate work that is related to your major or occupational goal. To utilize Student Employment services, students must be currently enrolled or be a Bakersfield College graduate or Bakersfield College alumni. All employment positions are posted on Jobspeaker.

Student Employment Lab

The Student Employment Lab is your one-stop resource and information center for on- and off-campus employment opportunities. We provide the right tools, to get the right jobs that are in line with student's educational goals and career objectives. The Lab provides assistance with building a professional resume and registering with Jobspeaker.

Additional resources include encouraging books, magazines, and DVDs for job seekers, and a full encyclopedia for careers and vocational guidance. The Student Employment Lab strives to assist today's students become fully prepared to become tomorrow's workforce.
