Over fifty years ago, humans began exploring the moon. The William M Thomas Planetarium will present the future of human exploration on Mars with “MARS One Thousand One” on Thursday, March 7, from 7:30 to 9:00 PM. Doors will open 30 minutes before the show starts for seating and will be closed during the 1.5-hour program with no late admittance. Tickets will be available for $8/adults and $6/seniors and children 5-12 years old online only starting February 16 through Vallitix (tickets will NOT be sold at the door). The William M Thomas Planetarium is on the second floor, northwest end of the Math-Science Building, Room 112. The map below shows you where is the planetarium. No food, drink, or gum/candy is allowed in the planetarium. Children must be 5 years or older. Also see the Online Campus Map for more information on the location of the planetarium, and our Parking Information page.

The 1.5-hour show will begin with a short tour of the evening sky using the planetarium's Goto Chronos star projector followed by the 53-minute all-dome presentation from Mirage3D called “MARS One Thousand One”. Space reporter Miles O'Brien guides you through the first human mission to Mars — a daring 1000-day mission to fly an international crew to the red planet and return them safely to Earth. Many challenges will have to be met in order for the crew to succeed and unlock the secrets of the new World!

Someday soon, the first humans will leave for Mars. They may be someone you know. Like the astronauts of the Space Age, they'll be blasting off to the unknown. "MARS One Thousand One" is the story of one possible mission that carries a multi-national crew to the Red Planet. Created by Mirage 3D, with live actors working on specially built sets and in green-screen studios, this 53-minute-long presentation is a captivating exploration of the kind of mission we'll soon see blast off to Mars.

"MARS One Thousand One" is a visually beautiful show that brings the reality of Mars exploration to audiences. It's set just far enough in the future to seem real, but with crafty science-fictional touches that tell us it's still a ways in the future. It tells a story that we all hope to see and hear in our lifetimes: a trip to the Red Planet. Embark on the greatest adventure of the 21st century!
