In honor of the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11, the first manned mission to the surface of the Moon, the William M Thomas Planetarium will be showing "Dawn of the Space Age" on Thursday evening, March 28 from 7:30 to 8:45 PM. Doors will open 30 minutes before the show starts for seating and will be closed during the one-hour 15-minute program with no late admittance. Tickets are available for $8/adults and $6/seniors and children 5-12 years old from the Bakersfield College Ticket Office and online only (tickets will NOT be sold at the door). The BC Ticket Office is in Business Services (395-4326) and the William M Thomas Planetarium is on the second floor, northwest end of the Math-Science Building, Room 112. The map below shows you where the ticket office and the planetarium are. No food, drink, or gum/candy is allowed in the planetarium. Children must be 5 years or older.

The show will begin with a tour of the evening sky using the planetarium's Goto Chronos star projector. After that we will be treated to the full-dome show "Dawn of the Space Age" from Mirage3d. This full-dome 41-minute show uses our Spitz SciDome to immerse you in the first 50 years of space exploration, from the launch of the first artificial satellite Sputnik, to the magnificent lunar landings and privately operated space flights (much of which is being pioneered just east of us in the Mojave area!). Be immersed with this most accurate historic reconstruction of humanity's first steps into space.
