Fall 2023

Fall Semester: Monday, August 21st - Friday, December 8th

Course offered in Fall 2023 semester:

  • CRN: 73839 - Math B99NC: Math Jam - Math Skill Building

This is NOT a transfer-level course, nor is it for credit. The assumption is you are taking this in order to be successful in a different for-credit course. Students receive "walk-in" instruction, during our in-person and online business hours, and get help directly from an instructor.

There is also the option to use a self-paced, online, adaptive learning software to support this: ALEKS (Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces). The student may choose to read ALEKS in English or Spanish. The ALEKS website can be found at the ALEKS website.

The Math Learning Center Hours:

Required Supplies:

  1. ALEKS student access code (20-digit code): The access code may be purchased at the BC bookstore or the Delano campus. It is also available for purchase online from the ALEKS website.

  2. Course Code: The 10-digit Course Code information for accessing ALEKS is given in the orientation when you sign-up for the Math B99NC class.

  3. Textbook: Recommended supporting textbooks are the Beginning Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, and PreCalculus found free at OpenStax.org/subjects/math.

  4. Grading: Grading for the class is based on the total number of hours you had worked in the ALEKS program AND/OR the participation in the tutoring sessions attended during the semester by coming into the Math Learning Center either in-person OR via zoom.

Grading Scale:

  • “P” - Satisfactory completion of the ALEKS based hybrid course AND/OR Tutoring Sessions

  • “NP” - Unsatisfactory grade

  • The grade in the class will not affect your GPA. At the point where you have the passing grade ("P") for the Math B99NC course, you can be done with the course or repeat the class again in the future semesters. If you have a "NP" in the class, you are highly recommended to sign up for the class again. To continue the class after the first 2-weeks in ALEKS, you will have to purchase an ALEKS access code.

  • Tutoring: All students are strongly encouraged to join the Math Learning Center in-person /virtually to get one-on-one help. The tutoring will be one-on-one as first come - first serve basis. If you join the zoom meeting for tutoring, let the Host / Co-host in the Zoom meeting know and they will assign you in a breakout room with an instructor to get one-on-one help. We definitely do not expect you to work on the program without help. If you have trouble with a topic at home, make a note of the topic or print the page and move on to a different topic. Then come in to the Math Learning Center in-person OR join the MLC Zoom meeting and let us help you. The videos at the website KhanAcademy.org and at MathTV.com are recommended for online math help, too.
