CHEM B2A Waiver Exam
The CHEM B2A Waiver Exam is offered on specified dates for students that have a BC ID and e-mail address. It consists of two parts. Part I is a multiple-choice test. Students that pass the Part I of the exam will be given the opportunity to attempt Part II of the exam. Part II consists of a lab practical, essays, and written chemistry problems. Both sections must be passed in order to meet the pre-requisite for CHEM B2A.
- Students may only take the exam one time.
- Students many only register one time.
- Admission requires presentation of a BC photo ID the day of the exam.
- If a student is absent for the exam it is still consider an attempt.
Exam Dates
- Registration closes Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 11:00PM
- Part I - Saturday, March 7, 2026 10:00AM-11:30AM
If Part 1 is passed:
- Part II - Saturday, March 7, 2026 12:00PM-3:00PM
- Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early with your BC-Issued photo ID. No other form of identification will be accepted. There is a 30 minute break between Part I and Part II so students are encouraged to bring drinks or food.
Exam Details
The exam begins at 10:00AM. Plan on arriving at least 15 minutes early. The location will be in the general science (GS) or science and engineering (SE) building on the main campus. Students that register with a correct BC address will be sent a detailed e-mail the week before the exam.
The topics for the exam are taken from the course outline of record (COR) for CHEM B2A and include measurements, elements, atoms, ions, nomenclature, chemical reactions, chemical composition, chemical quantities, energy, modern atomic theory, chemical bonding, gases, liquids and solids, solutions, acids and bases, equilibrium, oxidation-reduction, and nuclear chemistry. There are no sample tests or organized study sessions offered. However, Students are welcome to study for the exam and to use open education resources such as LibreTexts™ Chemistry. No study material or study sessions are provided.
Day of Exam
- Arrive at least 15 minutes early with your BC-Issued photo ID. No other form of identification will be accepted.
- Bring a pencil and non-programmable calculator.
- All cell phones will need to be turned off and stored in a closed bag during the exam.
- Students that leave the room during the exam will not be allowed to return.
Sign Up for the Waiver Exam
Registration is required at least one week before the exam. Please fill out the Interest Form for the upcoming Waiver exam. Students that fill out the form correctly and accurately will receive an e-mail, after the closing date for registration, with details inviting them to the Waiver Exam.
