Courtesy Cart

The Courtesy Cart Service provides on-campus transportation for students who have an approved disability-related need for mobility assistance. Electric-powered carts assist eligible students in traveling between locations on the Bakersfield College campus.

The Courtesy Cart Service is provided to assist eligible students with accessing campus programs, services, and activities. The service is intended to support mobility between campus locations for students with approved mobility-related accommodations.

To ensure the safety of students and staff, Courtesy Cart personnel are not able to:

• Provide personal attendant services.
• Assist with lifting or transferring students.
• Operate or assist with personal vehicles.
• Load or unload personal mobility devices or other personal belongings.
• Provide transportation beyond the boundaries of the Bakersfield College campus.

The Courtesy Cart service is available to students who have an approved temporary or permanent disability-related need for mobility assistance.

Service is available Monday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM and Friday from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM (Hours may vary during Summer and vacation periods.)

Students who believe they may benefit from the Courtesy Cart Service should first apply for services through Disabled Students Programs & Services (DSPS). If approved through the interactive process, the Courtesy Cart accommodation will be added to the student's approved accommodations.

Once approved, students may request Courtesy Cart service by calling (661) 395-4554. Students may also ask any Bakersfield College employee to contact Campus Safety on their behalf to request transportation.

Students are responsible for allowing adequate travel time between classes. Because the Courtesy Cart serves multiple students throughout the day, wait times may vary. Students are encouraged to avoid scheduling back-to-back classes whenever possible.
