Opening Day- 8/17/23

Each semester, Bakersfield College faculty and staff gather together for Opening Day Ceremonies. This fall, for the first time ever, the Bakersfield College Archives had a table to talk about history and share our legacy with those who have been a part of the Renegade Family for years and those who are just joining us. The display included a cheerleading uniform from 1969-1970, donated by Debbie Stuebbe, and an Engineers Club Jacket, circa 1960, donated by John Wittig. The table itself was full of amazing artifacts, such as a 1929 Faculty picture, 1937 track shoes, a textbook cover from the late 1950s, and a 1955 BC Football helmet, signed by all the team members who played in the Memorial Stadium for the first time when the stadium opened that year. Our display was topped off with an awesome new historical timeline designed by the BC graphics team member We had a great time handing out newsletters, looking at old football programs, and sharing BC stories.

The Longtime Archives Team Retires- Again!- 7/1/23

Two of our favorite staff have decided to hang up their hats and enjoy retirement- we'll miss Helen Harp and Rosalee Pogue more than they know and greatly appreciate everything they've done for the archives over the years. One of our greatest volunteers, Roxanne Starbuck has decided to follow Helen and Rosalee into the magical land of retirement- we'll miss her, as well!

Meet our New Archives Director- 5/8/23

Bethany Rice, an adjunct librarian at Bakersfield College, is stepping into the role of Archives Faculty Director this summer. She has long been part of the Renegade family, having been on campus with her parents who attended BC while she was young to doing concurrent classes during her high school years. After high school, Bethany attended Bakersfield College and served in a few different roles on campus. She was a student government senator in 2008-2009, and served as a student assistant, in the health office, as well. In 2009-2010, Bethany was voted in as Activities Liaison for the Student Government Association and was also a teaching assistant in the anthropology department.  After receiving her two AAs, in history and anthropology, she transferred to the University of California, Davis. Post-graduation from UCD, Bethany attended San Jose State University and received her Master’s in Library and Information Science in 2015. After returning to Bakersfield, she was a professional expert for the foundation and served on the Alumni Board as secretary. Bethany joined the BC library as an adjunct in 2022 and has loved serving our students. She says she is absolutely thrilled to be serving the entire BC community now in her new role as Archives Director and having the opportunity to share the Renegade legacy with the world.
