The STEM Department at Bakersfield College recently hosted an information session for incoming STEM students. Families, local high school students, and school representatives from throughout Kern County were invited to participate and receive invaluable information about BC’s STEM programs.
The event was held in the Science and Engineering Building on BC’s Panorama Campus and featured presentations from STEM professors, counselors, and advisors. They discussed program information, classroom expectations, campus involvement, and other topics, including:
- What is community college?
- Basic information about general education requirements
- An overview of STEM programs offered at BC
- Information about what transfer is and facts about the CSU and UC school systems
- Basic information about financial aid
- Support services at BC
- How parents/families can support their students while they are in school
The event wrapped up with a dinner for all attendees, offering a chance for questions and feedback. It was an exciting and engaging evening that served as a thorough introduction to Bakersfield College and the STEM department. We are excited to welcome these future STEM students into the Renegade family!
