About Leah

Leah has been serving women and families in her community for almost 3 decades. Her career has included roles as a doula, new parent and lactation educator, lactation consultant, registered nurse, nurse educator, and, most recently, certified nurse-midwife. She is also a tenured professor of nursing at Bakersfield College, where she teaches maternal–newborn nursing and is actively involved in program development and supporting the next generation of nurses.

Leah is passionate about evidence-based practice and frequently provides presentations to professional groups and community audiences. A dedicated lifelong learner, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master’s Degree in Nursing Education, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Touro University, Nevada, where her process improvement project focused on reducing cesarean section rates in the low-risk population. In 2023, she proudly completed her second master’s degree in Nurse-Midwifery and now provides full-scope midwifery care with the goal of expanding access to safe, supportive birth options in Kern County.

Leah is married to a patient man who graciously embraces her fascination with all things birth-related.
