Biography

Cory Rickard Geurtsen (she, her, hers) is a former student of Bakersfield College and long time participant of The Kern Shakespeare Festival. Some of her plays in the festival include The Merry Wives Of Windsor, Comedy of Errors, Much Ado About Nothing, and Twelfth Night. She is a 4th grade teacher at Bimat Elementary, an 5th year adjunct theatre professor at Bakersfield College, and Co-Artistic Director at The Empty Space. She has also worked in children’s theatre through Tonicism Productions, The Spotlight Theatre School of Art, and the Arts Council of Kern. Cory received her teaching credential from San Jose State and holds a B.A. in Art History from Cal State, Bakersfield. She earned an M.A. in Theatre Arts from Cal State, Los Angeles where she was a selected playwright for the John Lion New Plays Festival. She believes in the transformative power generated by a community connected through theatre and loves supporting artists. She lives in downtown Bakersfield with her husband.
