Last night, community leaders, local dignitaries and Bakersfield College administrators gathered in the Renegade Event Center on BC’s Panorama Campus for a reception that officially introduced BC President Dr. Stacy Pfluger to the Kern County community.  The event featured a visual display of BC’s presidential history, music by the BC Jazz ensemble, performances from Industrial Automation's G1 robot and the BC Chamber singers, guest speakers, a delicious assortment of food and beverages, and a presentation of the 2026-27 President’s Scholars.

Kern Community College District Interim Chancellor Dr. Sean Hancock welcomed everybody to the event and was excited to welcome Dr. Pfluger to Bakersfield College. “It is wonderful to see so many people here tonight to celebrate Dr. Stacy Pfluger and this important milestone for BC,” he said. “What I like about Dr. Pfluger is the thoughtful and collaborative way that she leads,” he continued, “she asks questions, listens, and she keep the focus on serving our students.” He concluded by congratulating Dr. Pfluger on her appointment to President and said he was looking forward to working together to continue the mission of Bakersfield College.

Kern Community College District Board President Nan Gomez-Heitzeburg also shared congratulatory remarks for the new president. “On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we congratulate you on becoming the 12th President of Bakersfield College,” she said, “I really am excited to see what you are going bring to the table. You are going to carry us forward into a new era.”

The exciting conclusion of the event was when Dr. Stacy Fluger was addressing attendees and announced the return of the President’s Scholars program, which provides scholarships for selected BC students. Dr. Pfluger announced the names of the recipients of the award and welcomed the scholars in attendance to the stage to be recognized. The 2026-27 President’s Scholars recipients were Sa’Kai Gilford, Madison Gonzalez, Marcus Parada, Aline Chavez, and Brandon-Adan Campos.

The evening concluded with a time of fellowship, networking, and reminiscing as attendees shared fond memories of BC and a renewed excitement for the future. Congratulations, Dr. Stacy Pfluger! We are so proud to have you at Bakersfield College and grateful for all that you bring to our college community. We are excited to celebrate this well-deserved achievement with you! We look forward to the positive impact that you will have on BC, the community, Kern County, and beyond.
