BCSGA Hosts Pizza with the Presidents

Wednesday, January 28, 2026
The Bakersfield College Student Government Association invited students and staff to a discussion panel featuring BC President Dr. Stacey Pfluger, BCSGA President Khalfani Mackey, and other BC administrators. The event offered free pizza to all attendees and gave students the opportunity for questions, feedback, and campus dialogue.
Mackey served as the MC and read student-submitted questions throughout the event. After formal greetings, and time to get some fresh pizza, Dr. Pfluger was the first panelist to address attendees and talked about the importance of education. “I am in higher education because I believe in the power of education to change lives,” she said, “and I would just encourage each and every one of you to use this time of your life to build a strong foundation.”
Dr. Queen King, Vice President of Finance and Administrative Services, was one of the panelists for the event. She was excited to answer the question: ‘What is your why?’ “I remember my first interview at a higher education institution, and seeing how enthusiastic people were about serving the students – it just piqued my interest,” she said, “and it’s great be able to work at a college like this one that breaks down various barriers for students to be successful.”
Jasmine Perez, a BC nursing student, was one of the students that attended the event and was happy that administrators took time to speak with students. “I really liked this event,” she said, “It helped students share information about what they need,” she said, “and I think it’s important for students to have the opportunity to come and ask questions, and to be informed.”
More than one hundred students and staff attended Pizza with the Presidents, and it provided a great space for discussion and interaction. A big thank you to all who made this event possible and a special thank you to all the panelists who participated: Dr. Stacey Pfluger, Interim President of Bakersfield College; Khalfani Mackey, BCSGA President; Dr. Queen King, Vice President of Finance and Administrative Services; LaNina Andrews, Executive Director of Communication and Marketing; Cheryl Scott Executive Director of the BC Foundation; Sooyeon Kim, Dean of Institutional Effectiveness; Ebony Williams, Director of Information Technology.
