Earlier this week, the Veterans Services and Programs Department at Bakersfield College hosted Vet Fest 2025. This annual event gives students, staff, and community members the opportunity to come together and celebrate veterans of all eras. With Veterans Day taking place on November 11th, Vet Fest is the perfect occasion to honor the service and sacrifice of Kern Counties’ veterans.

Attendees to this year’s Vet Fest had the opportunity to preview more than 50 resource booths, including BC services, Get Bus, Kern Health Systems, several colleges and universities, and several others. The day included live entertainment, lawn games, lunch, and an inspirational speech form Michael A. Runningwild, a Native American Veteran who served in the USMC.

Jenny Frank, Manager of Veteran Services and Programs at BC, welcomed everyone to the event and talked about supporting veteran students. “One of the best ways we can celebrate our veterans is through support,” she said to attendees, “and the Veteran Resource Center is here to support them through their educational journey.” She continued, “Being a veteran can be a challenging road, and without the support of all the resources, not just here on campus, but the community resources – they may not succeed.”

Bakersfield College Interim President, Dr. Stacey Pfluger, also welcomed guests and was excited to share in the day’s festivities. “I am grateful to celebrate with you today,” she said, “I hope this festival not only brings joy and connection but also reminds you of how deeply valued you are at Bakersfield College.” She was also proud to welcome veterans to the campus. “To the veterans here today: thank you. Thank you for your service, yes, but also for your leadership, your perspective, and the example you set for all of us.”

As the festivities came to a close, Vet Fest 2025 left attendees with a renewed sense of gratitude and community. The gathering not only highlighted the invaluable contributions of veterans but also showcased the collective commitment of Bakersfield College and its partners to support those who have served. Thank you to everyone who participated and celebrated with us, and to the veterans who came to be a part of this special day.
