The BC Rodeo Team hosted the 3rd Annual Bakersfield College Rodeo at the Kern County Fairgrounds. The event, sponsored by Haddad Dodge/Ram, was held on Saturday and Sunday, November 8–9.
More than 4800 people attended the event over the weekend, which marked one of the largest community turnouts of the year. The rodeo featured more than 200 athletes from several schools, including Bakersfield College, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, UNLV, and others. The competitive events included bareback riding, bull riding, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, goat tying, and others. The competition was intense, and several BC team members finished in the top ten in some of the events.
The weekend also featured a variety of entertainment options for those in attendance. They got to enjoy live music, preview 25+ vendor booths, purchase rodeo merchandise, and watch rodeo clowns and Mutton Bustin’!
Julie Beechinor, BC Rodeo Team Advisor and Faculty, was excited to bring the event back to Bakersfield. “It is such an honor to be able to represent Bakersfield College by hosting this for our community,” she said, “we are grateful for the support, and we are already planning for the next Bakersfield rodeo!”
In 2023, the BC Rodeo was voted Best Rodeo of the Year by the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA), and each year it brings together some of the best college rodeo teams in the west. There are already plans for the next year’s BC Rodeo – we hope that everyone can attend and make it the biggest and best rodeo ever!
