HBCU Caravan Returns to Bakersfield College

Earlier this week, the California Community Colleges Transfer Guarantee Pathway to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Caravan returned to Bakersfield College, providing an incredible opportunity for students to explore transfer options, connect directly with HBCU representatives, and learn more about academic programs available across the country.
Hosted in the Renegade Event Center on BC’s Panorama Campus, the event welcomed almost
300 attendees, including Bakersfield College students, local high school students,
and peers from neighboring community colleges such as Taft College, Antelope Valley
College, and College of the Canyons.
This year’s Caravan brought together 27 HBCU representatives from 16 institutions,
including Harris-Stowe State University, Lane College, Talladega College, and Stillman
College, among others. The event offered a distinctive opportunity for community college
students to apply on-site to participating HBCUs with support from visiting college
staff, a hands-on experience that made the transfer process more accessible and approachable.
The Caravan is an important event for Bakersfield College because it connects students to valuable transfer pathways beyond California. Through programs like the CCC to HBCU Transfer Guarantee, California Community College students can seamlessly continue their education at participating Historically Black Colleges and Universities, with eligible students receiving up to $5,000 in transfer awards.
For many students, the HBCU Caravan provides a personal introduction to colleges that may otherwise feel out of reach. It allows them to engage directly with campus representatives, ask questions, and gain insights that would normally require traveling out of state.
Bakersfield College was honored to be among the California Community Colleges selected to host this year’s CCC to HBCU Transfer Guarantee program visit. Events like this underscore BC’s commitment to supporting every student’s academic journey and expanding access to higher education opportunities.
