On Friday, September 12, Bakersfield College’s Panorama Campus served as the location for an exciting ribbon-cutting ceremony for Kern Medical. The event marked the official launch of two brand-new, state-of-the-art mobile medical clinics that will bring accessible healthcare to numerous Kern County schools and organizations.

During the ceremony, attendees heard from community partners, city representatives, and Kern Medical administrators, each sharing their enthusiasm for this new venture while emphasizing its importance to the community. Scott Thygerson, CEO of Kern Medical, told attendees that the expansion in services is due to the rapid growth of healthcare needs in the community, as the number of patients seen monthly at Kern Medical clinics has quadrupled over the last decade.

The units will offer hearing tests, vision screenings, school physicals, immunizations, wellness visits, and more.

Bakersfield College and Kern Medical share a strong partnership, with many BC nursing and allied health students training at Kern Medical and beginning their careers there. Interim President Dr. Stacey Pfluger said, “At BC, we are committed to preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals, and we value Kern Medical’s role in supporting our students and advancing healthcare in our region.”
