Bakersfield College’s Theatre Program is proud to present their final production for the Spring semester. BC Theatre students Yari N. Reyes Vaquedano and Hector Vizcarra will direct a cast of their peers in Real Women Have Curves, the beloved classic play by Josefina López. The play will run in the Black Box Theatre, part of the Edward Simonsen Performing Arts Center at Bakersfield College, on May 1, 2, & 3.

“This play is a story about learning from and appreciating the people in our lives that we often overlook. The story asks you to take a look and acknowledge the people in the community whose stories might not be known. Josefina López’s work shines a light on issues that were relevant thirty years ago and are still relevant now,” says Vizcarra. “The Latin community of Bakersfield has recently been impacted by the fear of ICE and deportations. Putting on this play now is important because we want to let the people in our community who are struggling with these issues know that we see them and that they are important.”

BC Theatre Professor, Kimberly Chin, helped provide guidance for the students involved with the production. "Real Women Have Curves will be remembered as one of the most difficult rehearsal process I have ever endured in my twenty-five years of teaching at Bakersfield College," said Kim, "I hope that the experience will not only help the students grow professionally but also help with their personal growth as well.”

Tickets are available now through the Online Ticket Page and range from $5-$8.
