Amanda Anguiano
Making the Most of the College Journey at BC
Meet Amanda Anguiano, a determined and ambitious Renegade who is pursuing her passion for Criminal Justice and Criminology with a double major in Political Science. Amanda's decision to attend Bakersfield College was driven by both practical and personal reasons.
Inspired by her sister's positive experience at BC, Amanda saw attending community college as an opportunity for personal growth and financial savings. "You do save a lot of money," she remarks, acknowledging the benefits of beginning her educational journey at a community college before transferring to a four-year university.
Once enrolled, Amanda wasted no time in getting involved on campus, finding her place in student government. Initially drawn by the desire to contribute and engage, she now holds the role of Vice President in BCSGA (Bakersfield College Student Government Association). Recognizing the importance of ensuring her fellow students' success, Amanda is dedicated to meeting their needs and creating a supportive community. She says, “Being involved gives me the opportunity to voice my opinions on topics I should have a say in, but also teaches me that I have a right to stand up for what I believe in and make a change with not only in Bakersfield College but our society as a whole.”
Her enthusiasm extends to the classroom where she’ll tell you that she loves the passionate and engaging teachers, particularly noting a Criminal Law class with Professor Thomas Wallace has been one of her favorites. The course's focus on the American court system's procedures and protocols resonated with her, making the learning experience both enjoyable and exciting.
Amanda's journey at Bakersfield College exemplifies the drive, passion, and determination of a dedicated student. Her commitment to her studies, involvement in student government, and appreciation for the college's learning environment showcase the transformative impact of a community college education. As Amanda sets her sights on her future at UC Irvine and beyond, she wants future Renegades to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead and make the most of their time at BC!
