COVID-19 FAQs

Based on a newly-signed law, Post 9/11 GI Bill students will continue to receive their BAH and MHA rate for resident training if they pursue courses converted online solely due to COVID-19. The law authorizes this special authority from March 1, 2020 to December 21, 2020. Continue to check with the Veterans Resource Center at (661) 395-4312 or email veterans@bakersfieldcollege.edu and we will update you with the most current information.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is currently monitoring the activities of the Student Veteran Coronavirus Response Act of 2020, a bill introduced and passed in the house that would allow certain students to continue receiving housing benefits through the end of their term if their program was unable to convert to online. The bill would also restore entitlement, extend delimiting dates and address impacts on work-study programs due to COVID-19.

  • Monday-Thursday: 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
  • Friday: 8:00 a.m. - noon
  • Saturday and Sunday: Closed

After you schedule your appointment you will receive a “Zoom Cloud Meeting'' link with steps on how to log-in and "meet" with your advisor or tutor. You must log-in from a computer, laptop, or tablet with a microphone and webcam to optimize your virtual appointment. Your smartphone is also an option when you download the mobile app. If you do not wish to download Zoom, you may use the Zoom phone as the only option. Other FAQs

You should have received an auto-generated email to your BC student email account when the certification was submitted. You may also reach out to the VA directly to follow up on any past or current certifications. Their number is 855-225-1159.

Email bcrecords@kccd.edu with "Veteran" in the subject line from your BC student email account. Include the course information and date this was completed. We should be able to update the certification for you. Which would then generate an auto-generated email to your BC student email with the updates/changes made.

Contact the VA at 855-225-1159 for any questions related to payments.

It’s likely you are not enrolled as a full-time student, which is 12 or more units. Be sure if you add or drop any courses, you notify us immediately so we can make the proper adjustments to your certification in a timely manner. In this case, you’d need to email bcrecords@kccd.edu and add Veteran to the subject line. Be sure to email from your BC student email account.

Be sure you’ve completed any updates via your student account. If you’re still getting a later date reach out to us via email at bcrecords@kccd.edu. Be sure to add Veteran to the subject line and email from your BC student email account so we may verify the reason for late registration.

The process for VA payments takes additional time. If you are concerned, email bcrecords@kccd.edu with "Veteran" in the subject line. We should be able to verify how much we billed them for and if payment has been received already.

Email bcrecords@kccd.edu from your BC student email account with "Veteran" in the subject line. Include your student ID# (do not include your SS#), the term (summer/fall), and your current major. Once we are able to submit the certification to the VA, you should receive an auto-generated email to your BC student email account. If you have updated your CSEP with the VA Educational Advisor since the last semester, include a copy of that CSEP in your email as well.

Email a copy of your DD-214 or active military ID to bcrecords@kccd.edu from your BC student email account with "Veteran" in the subject line. Include your student ID#.
