What is LUPE?

Latinos Unidos Por Educación (LUPE) is a student organization for 1st generation college students attending BC which provides a safe haven and supportive environment. The student organization specifically targets AB 540, Undocumented, and DACA students on campus. LUPE will greatly enhance students’ confidence to succeed and complete their career, vocational and/or transfer goals by implementing proven best practices that champion student success, equity, and accessibility. LUPE promotes civil engagement, activism for immigrant rights, and develops partnerships with community leaders and organizations.

Mission Statement

The mission of Latinos Unidos Por Educación (LUPE) is to promote post-secondary education and provide a supportive and safe haven for undocumented students regardless of nationality, ethnic background, faith affiliation, gender and/or sexual orientation. As a united and sympathetic organization of students, we will inspire and uplift each other, advocate for a better life for ourselves and our community by increasing educational awareness, understanding of human rights, political advancement, community advocacy, and campus engagement. We will encourage Dreamers to persist through adversity and pursue their educational and career endeavors.

Vision

LUPE aims to establish a professionally coordinated student organization whereas the student leadership, recruitment, mentoring, and educational workshops and interventions are headed by professional faculty and classified advisors from the BC Campus. LUPE will set high standards of education by assisting students in developing educational and career objectives, fostering leadership development, expecting success from students, and generating a positive support network. Ultimately, the student organization will help increase student persistence, retention, and completion rates for all cohorts involved.
