Welcome! Bakersfield College is a community of individuals dedicated to teaching. We are committed to making everyone on our campus safe, enhancing public safety through education and prevention.
We provide a variety of services through the Department of Public Safety and other departments, including a security escort service, personal safety tips, sexual assault prevention tips, survivor assistance and officer patrols. Please take the time to inform yourself about these programs.
Do not hesitate to ask the Department of Public Safety staff any questions you may have about your personal safety. You will find that the staff members are interested and welcome the opportunity to assist with your concerns.
Our community safety is the responsibility of everyone, both as individuals and as members of our community. Please exercise personal and community responsibility during your time with Bakersfield College. With your help, we can meet the goal of providing a safe, secure learning environment for the free, open and civil exchange of ideas within an international community.
The Department of Public Safety is responsible for providing security, emergency response and parking enforcement at Bakersfield College, Weill Institute and the Delano Community Center.
Our trained security are Officers who have previous Law Enforcement experience while others have a solid background in security related work. Public Safety Officers retain a civilian status while employed at Bakersfield College.
However, all Officers have received a minimum P.C. 832 certification by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. The Officers receive continuing professional training in first aid, CPR, emergency response, disaster preparedness, safety, and security each year.
Upon being hired, Officers undergo a comprehensive 4-week training program wherein a Field Training Officer completes daily/weekly progress reviews of the performance of the trainee officer.
