The Marching Arts ensembles at Bakersfield College provide year-round opportunities for nearly 200 students each year to continue their marching experience beyond high school. With a nationally recognized drumline and drum & bugle corps, in addition to a marching/pep band, there is something for everyone.
The BC Renegade Band (MUSC B40) is an ensemble open to any band or guard members interested in a collegiate athletic band experience. The band meets weekly in the fall to prepare for performances at BC Football games and other campus and community events. Together with the Drumline and the Cheer Team, the Renegade Band is here to fight, fight, fight for BC. Go Gades!
Whether entertaining BC Football fans or representing the college throughout the community, the BC Drumline (MUSC B18A) is the heartbeat of Bakersfield College.
In the fall semester, the Renegade Drumline plays entertainment-oriented music and performs at BC Football games and community events. This class is open to all battery percussionists, and informal auditions occur at the beginning of the school-year.
In the spring semester, the Indoor Drumline prepares a competitive show and competes locally in the PPAACC circuit and nationally at Winter Guard International sanctioned events. Auditions for this ensemble occur in the fall, and students must be 22 years old or younger to participate.
The Golden Empire Drum & Bugle Corps from Bakersfield College (MUSC B28) is the premiere drum corps in the southern San Joaquin Valley. The corps is comprised of youth who are furthering their education in brass, percussion, and visual performance. Students rehearse monthly in the spring and daily in the summer as they prepare for local public performances and a summer tour.
Auditions for this ensemble begin in the winter, and enrollment is open to students ranging from high school through 21 years old. Founded in 2014, Golden Empire is an Open Class member of Drum Corps International, Marching Music's Major League.
