Bakersfield College’s One-Day Express Enrollment for Spring 2018 in Shafter

Bakersfield College is bringing higher education to Shafter for our underserved populations in rural North West Kern County beginning Spring 2018. The college offerings at the Shafter Learning Center and Shafter High School will service a population of over 60,000 adults (18 and over) living within a twenty mile radius of both locations. On Tuesday, November 14th from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., students will be able to complete their enrollment steps all in one day and leave with a schedule for classes!
The site will primarily support the communities of Wasco, Shafter, and McFarland and offer general education courses each semester at the Shafter Learning Center and Shafter High School, and is located about eight miles south of Wasco on highway 43 in the city of Shafter at 236 James Street, Shafter, CA.

This movement is a part of the Bakersfield College’s rural community outreach effort and will result in over 500 enrollments each semester in Shafter. Students will be able to take their assessment test (photo ID required) and register for classes. The initial offerings will be general education college courses that apply to a Bakersfield College degree or transfer to local four year schools. In addition to course offerings, Bakersfield College will expand student support services to include education counseling and financial aid advising. The effort is to improve our support to students that cannot access our services at the Panorama campus.
