About MESA

The MESA Community College Program (MCCP) is one of the country's oldest programs providing academic support to educationally disadvantaged students so that they can excel in math and sciences and graduate with degrees in engineering, science and technology.

MCCP is a rigorous academic support program that strives to increase the number of educationally disadvantaged community college students who transfer to four-year institutions and earn a degree in math, science, engineering or computer science fields.

Student Requirements

To be eligible for the program, a student must fit the following criteria:

  • Financial Disadvantage: Receiving some form of financial aid, such as:
    • FAFSA
    • Board of Governor's Waiver (BOGW)
    • Other
  • Educational Disadvantage: Attending a low-test scoring high school
  • Pursuing a STEM field, such as:
    • Biology
    • Chemistry
    • Engineering
    • Math
    • Physics
    • Any other STEM field*

*NOTE: Nursing program is NOT considered a STEM field

In addition, the program requires student involvement in one of the following activities per semester:

  • Academic Excellence workshop
  • MOW
  • Professional/Career Development Seminars
  • Capstone Projects

Students accepted into the MESA program may be eligible for STEM book vouchers, scholarships, stipends, free tutoring, field trips to four-year colleges and industries respective to students’ fields of study, industry internships and an environment for studying and networking.

Due to limited grant funding, not all students who qualify may be accepted into this program. Those most at need and meet all student responsibilies will be considered first.
