Today, the California Department of Education awarded the Kern Community College District, which includes Bakersfield College, Cerro Coso Community College, and Porterville College, $9.5 million for the development of career pathways which build off existing strong industry partnerships while focusing on new opportunities.
The California Department of Education awarded a total of $244 million in grants to 40 programs designed to better prepare students for college and the careers of today. The grants, provided through the California Career Pathways Trust program, were awarded to programs which blend academic and career technical education, and connect employers with education and train students for high-demand careers.
“Strengthening our pre-existing partnership with local high schools and colleges is essential to improving and expanding the educational opportunities that are important and relevant to Kern County’s career possibilities,” said Sandra Serrano, chancellor of the Kern Community College District. “With the support from the California Department of Education, the Kern Community College District will be able to further expand career-focused education in Kern County, and help our students move through the educational pipeline toward the career they’ve been seeking.”
