Fire Fighter Academy

Firefighter I Academy information:   

 

Prerequisite of:   EMTC B50 Emergency Medical Technician

The Firefigher 1 Academy  is a spring semester course, (January through early June). 

APPLICATION & INFORMATION BOOKLET will be available in the fall semester during the month of September.

  A CURRENT "Candidate Physical Ability Test" (CPAT) card is recommended to be submitted with your application. CPAT cards are good for 1 year from the date of issuance. 

   *We have included a new option of a Bakersfield College course KINS B21FC - CRN - 71551.  This course earns a certificate to apply toward the FF1 Academy only.  At the completion of the Academy a certified CPAT certificate will be required for any future employment.*

For information on how to obtain a CPAT card go to: www.fctconline.org/cpat/ . The CPAT test is NOT offered in Bakersfield, so plan ahead.

The Firefighter I academy will start in the spring semester. Fees will be approximately $2,000.00 for uniforms, and equipment and tuition. Course length will be from January to May, and will meet on Monday,Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday evenings 6:00 to 10:00 pm, and weekends Sat. & Sun. 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Total semester units are 16.5. This academy is recognized by and meets the California State Fire Training and Education Services certified training program.

A free Firefighter 1 workshop is on October 11, 2022 from 9:00am-12:00pm in the General Science Bldg, Room 56.  Information covered: Oral interviews, CPAT, and Written exams.
