Miss Representation (Delano)

Miss Representation, written and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, examines the persuasive role of the media in creating cultural norms and collective messages that disparage women and girls, undermining their ability and desire to lead and to feel powerful. The filmmaker also explores the impact of the media on how women and girls perceive their value, detrimentally leading them to emphasize traditionally- and stereo typically-preferred characteristics of youth, beauty, and sexuality. With the realization of the power of media to shape self-perception and self-value, Professor of English for Multi-lingual Students, Elizabeth Rodacker, the moderator, will introduce the documentary and facilitate discussion about the film at the BC Main campus on March 6th, and Professor of Religion and Philosophy, Susanne Langham, will moderate the event at the Delano Campus on March 28th.
