Garden Fest at Bakersfield College beginning its 12th year, has become Bakersfield’s premiere springtime garden event. Garden Fest is an open house featuring the Environmental Horticulture and Agriculture programs that draws thousands of visitors to the Bakersfield College campus for a day of family fun.

With over 150 vendor booths featuring gardening, pets, farmer’s market, cooking, outdoor leisure, arts & crafts, and environmentally friendly home improvement ideas, there is something for everyone.

New and special for the whole family is the BC Club Carnival games area. Have fun and win prizes with Carnival games presented by the student clubs and organizations from Bakersfield College. Dunk the President! Bob for Apples! Ring the Bottle and many more!

A waterfall building demonstration will be presented by Buck’s Landscape Materials and Pond Shop with Mike and AJ. A waterfall can be a great addition to add water movement and visual beauty to any patio or small yard.

Learn about gardening at the Garden Fest seminars at the California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA) Country Garden Stage featuring The Country Garden Radio program from KERN 1180AM/96.1FM radio with a live radio broadcast. The interactive Garden Fest seminars are hosted by Bakersfield College's Plant Professor, Professor Lindsay Ono and landscape industry professional The Sultan of Sod, Dale Edwards from Old River Sod. The Country Garden duo will make you laugh and learn and they will be joined in the seminars by industry professionals to demonstrate and talk gardening and answering your questions.

Don’t miss a crowd favorite segment called, Grilling with the Chef. This is an interactive demonstration on grilling meats and vegetables with Bakersfield College’s Chef Alex Gomez. The Chef will be using fresh produce selected that day from the Renegade Ranch Farmer’s Market and the best part, the interactive participation of taste testing the results. The barbeque grill that they demonstrate on will be raffled off as a fund raiser for the BC Ag Club and this gas barbeque can be yours if you are lucky enough to win!

Returning for a second year Garden Fest is the Bakersfield College Renegade Ruckus Cook Off Competition. The top up and coming chefs from the Bakersfield College Culinary Arts program will compete in a chopped style cook off. This event will have running commentary as the competitors prepare their dishes for the distinguished panel of judges.

Get great gardening ideas can be found at the Country Garden Experience. Landscape ideas will be presented by local nurseries and landscape companies with the plants available for purchase. Dozens of vendor booths composed of nursery, landscape, pet, and home improvement businesses, community gardening clubs, schools, Bakersfield College clubs and organizations, community organizations, forestry, parks and recreation, arts and crafts vendors, and green organizations will educate and inform the public.
