The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC), along with Bakersfield College, present an online seminar series in partnership with the California Community College system, the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges (ASCCC), the Pacific Postsecondary Education Panel (PPEC), and the University of Hawaii Community Colleges.
What will be the future of learning in a post-COVID world? How will we ensure that historically marginalized students who have been disproportionately impacted by these crises have the resources and support they need to succeed? Do we need to heighten our emphasis on the responsibilities of civic literacy and engagement for a healthy democracy?
These major, unpredictable circumstances accelerated change, making our online future become our present much more quickly than we might have ever imagined. I doubt any of us would have predicted in early March the extent to which our faculty would now be able to teach their subjects online, or the extent to which administrative paperwork could be done securely off-campus. However, it should have been no surprise that faced with these challenges, we would learn how to do what we do at a distance – and to do it well.
Because we’ve proven to ourselves that we can change, that we can adapt, I believe we’re ready to explore a future of learning. I envision the learning happening in different spaces – not just in the classroom but also through lived experience– is both acknowledged and honored. This is the future of education and another step toward equity in learning.
Join us for a virtual "campfire" conversation about the now-present future of learning.
