Student Success Lab

The Student Success Lab supports and contributes to the mission of Bakersfield College by offering a curriculum of developmental courses designed to remediate and lead students to college level courses. By being sensitive and responsive to the individual differences and diverse needs of transitional students seeking to achieve college-level skills in a variety of academic disciplines, the Student Success Lab promotes, encourages, and stimulates the personal, social, and intellectual growth of its student base through its commitment to the following goals and values:

  • Our belief that all student learners have different talents and backgrounds
  • Our commitment to identify these diversities in order to foster a supportive, student-centered atmosphere that encourages student academic success
  • Our commitment to provide and develop activities and services in the lab that prepare students for college level courses

Lab Hours

  • Monday & Thursday 8:30am-6:00pm
  • Tuesday & Wednesday 8:30am-7:00pm
  • Friday 8:30am-12:20pm

Reading Skills Course

The SS Lab offers a 0.5 unit Reading Skills Course, ACDV B201A.

Course Description: This is an 8-week course that is graded as credit/no credit only. To receive credit, you must complete the assignment schedule in your syllabus with mastery (80%) and satisfactorily complete 8 offline activities.

Recommended Skills: Since the assignments for this course are primarily computer-based, students should have basic computer skills (being able to access their campus email, log in and off of a computer, use a computer mouse, open files, and exit programs).

Course Materials: There are no books to buy, but please bring headphones or earbuds.

Writing Skills Course

The SS Lab offers a 0.5 unit Writing Skills Course, ACDV B201B.

Academic Resources Courses

The SS Lab also offers no credit courses ACDV 281A, 281B and 281C. These courses are perfect for students who want to:

  • Prepare for an upcoming assessment (TEAS, CSET, CBEST, ASVAB, etc)
  • Prepare to retake a placement test
  • Get extra practice on reading, writing, or math for classes like Welding, Culinary Arts, Chemistry, Electricity, Physics, etc.
