Architecture Drafting

The Architecture/Architectural Drafting program at Bakersfield College is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of architecture and the skills needed to work as architectural drafters.
The program offers an Architecture/Architectural Drafting Associate in Science degree, which is a two-year program that covers topics such as architectural design, drafting, building codes, and construction technology. The program also offers an Architectural Computer Aided Drafting Job Skills Certificate, which is a shorter program that focuses specifically on computer-aided drafting software and the skills needed to work with it. With a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, graduates of the program are well-equipped to pursue careers in architecture and related fields.
What is Architecture Drafting?
Architecture drafting, also known as architectural drawing or technical drawing, is a process of creating accurate and detailed two-dimensional (2D) or three-dimensional (3D) drawings or plans for buildings, structures, or other architectural projects. The purpose of architecture drafting is to communicate design ideas, specifications, and construction details to architects, engineers, contractors, and other professionals involved in the construction process. Architecture drafting typically involves the use of various drafting tools and software, such as pencils, rulers, compasses, protractors, CAD software, and 3D modeling software. The resulting drawings or plans can be used for a range of purposes, from obtaining building permits to facilitating construction and renovation projects.

Students who have a strong interest and aptitude in both design and technical aspects of building construction tend to excel in architecture drafting. These students typically have a creative and analytical mindset and can think critically and logically to solve complex design problems.
