Bakersfield College welcomes you to enroll if you are a high school graduate, have passed the GED or CHSPE test. If you’re not a high school graduate, you may attend if you are at least 18 years old. High school students may take classes at BC on a seats available basis with permission from a parent and your high school principal.
The policy of the college is that, unless specifically exempted by statute or regulation, every course, course section, or class reported for state aid, wherever offered and maintained by the college, shall be fully open to enrollment and participation by any person who has been admitted to the college and, when applicable, a relevant program, and who meets established prerequisites.

Student records are protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, state law and Kern Community College District Board Policy from access by casual or unauthorized persons. Access to records is provided to the student; school officials with legitimate educational interests; persons having written consent of the student; or by court order or subpoena.
The Act affords Bakersfield College the right to release such “Directory Information” as the student’s name, address, e-mail address, photograph, telephone listing, date and place of birth, major field of study, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, dates of attendance, degrees and awards received, and the most recent previous educational agency or institution attended.
Under the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, present and former BC students are given the right to inspect, review, and challenge the contents of all educational records related to them. No information contained in their educational records may be released without their consent, except to those agencies or individuals authorized by the Act.
Students wishing to inspect, review, or challenge any of their educational records must make a request in writing to the Dean of Students.
If students do not wish all or any of the “Directory Information” released, they must inform the Admissions and Records Office on their Admission/Update forms.
All males 18-25 years of age must register with Selective Service in accordance with the Federal Military Selective Service Act. Any person subject to this law must be registered with Selective Service in order to receive any student financial aid.
