Women have played an integral part in the development of Bakersfield College since its founding in 1913, and this page is dedicated to our celebrations of women on campus, student organizations dedicated to empowering women, and recognizing the history of women who have helped make the Home of the Renegades the place that it is today.

Sonya Christian was the 10th President of Bakersfield College and is now chancellor for the District. She has been a statewide leader in public education through her work as Chair of the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC). In 2016, she was named "Woman of the Year" by California Assemblymember Rudy Salas and the Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
