The African American Male Education Network & Development (A2MEND) Student Charter

The African American Male Education Network & Development (A2MEND) Student Charter provides an opportunity to promote a sense of brotherhood and positivity among its members, within the campus, and the surrounding community.

Members of the A2MEND Charter are dedicated to academic success, leadership development, community service, and mentoring. Member’s benefits include financial support, priority registration, access to a designated A2MEND advisor, plus more.

Charter Requirements, Eligibility and Benefits

A2MEND Student Charter

The objective of the A2MEND Student Charter maintains that its members are committed to academic success, leadership development, community service, and mentoring. A2MEND strives to establish strength in navigation, strength in a plan, and strength in relationships.

A2MEND strives to establish support, networking, and mentoring systems for members and for the youth in our community. A key to establishing this support is through the on-going advising component. A2MEND members are required to meet with the designated advisor monthly to ensure members are meeting the following criteria.

Charter eligibility and requirements:

  • CSEP (Comprehensive Student Education Plan) on file
  • Complete and verified financial aid (FASFA) application
  • Declare an approved Program of Study
  • Enroll in 15 degree-applicable units per semester or 30 per year
  • Completion of transfer-level math and English within the first year
  • Maintaining a GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Attend Charter meetings and events

Finish in Four

The A2MEND Student Charter works in concert with Kern Promise's Finish in 4 program to support the increase in student completion with an Associate Degree for Transfer in 60-semester units at BC. Students are then guaranteed admission to CSUB, in a similar major, and will complete an additional 60-semester unit to earn a bachelor’s degree! The Finish in 4 efforts aims to guarantee students complete their transfer degree in 2 years at Bakersfield College and a baccalaureate degree in the following 2 years at CSUB. Together, the goal is to move students through to the next stage of their educational and career goals in a more efficient and impactful way.

2020-2021 Finish in 4 Requirements

  • First-time college student attending BC
  • Declare an approved Program of Study
  • Enroll in 12 degree-applicable units minimum per semester or 30 per year (Does NOT include courses taken in the prior summer term.)
  • Complete transfer-level math and English within the first year of enrollment
  • Maintain BC GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • CSEP (Comprehensive Student Education Plan) on file by October 31, 2020

2020-2021 Finish in 4 Benefits

  • Day 2 priority registration at BC
  • Access to designated Finish in 4 Advisors
  • Associates degree in 60 units
  • Guaranteed admission to CSUB

Promise Scholars

In addition to Finish in 4 Promise requirements and benefits:

2020-2021 Promise Scholars Additional Requirements

  • Enroll in 15 degree-applicable units minimum per semester
  • California Resident/AB540 eligible
  • Completed and verified financial aid application Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act

2020-2021 Promise Scholars Additional Benefits

  • Financial assistance, which may include tuition assistance, book vouchers, and/or other scholarship and grant money based on student need (with priority going to California College Promise Grant-eligible students)
