The Bakersfield College Wylie and May Louise Jones Gallery is currently hosting the Art Student Exhibition 2024. The exhibition features over eighty student-made artworks created in BC Art courses using media ranging from graphic design, acrylic paintings, photography, ceramics, and many others.

The BC campus is full of inspired and talented students capable of expressing their artistic creativity through a diverse range of mediums. The Art Student Exhibit showcases the range and diversity of each piece and the individual talents that Bakersfield College’s aspiring artists have to offer.

While there were several paintings depicting meaningful scenes on canvas with acrylic and oil paint, others were carefully created with digital art, such as photographs, paintings, compositions, and vector art. Each piece of artwork demonstrated an artist’s skill of depth, conveying a special meaning unique to them.

The combination of both opposing scales (chromatic and achromatic alike) in the exhibition created the perfect contrast while being paired side by side along the white gallery walls: some pieces were smoothly drawn in complete gray-scale whereas other artists preferred more colorful mediums. The quiet stillness of the gallery itself creates an interesting and welcoming environment for enjoying art; all around providing a sense of tranquility necessary when absorbing different artwork and their meanings.

The Art Student Exhibition will be open for display through April 18th, 2024. The hours are Monday and Wednesday, 9:30-11:00 AM; and Tuesday and Thursday, 12:30-5:30 PM.
