ELIGIBILITY

Financial aid administered or approved by Bakersfield College under Federal Pell Grant, Federal Work Study (FWS), Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG), or Federal Stafford Loan is based on the following conditions.  The student must:

• be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
• be registered with the Selective Service System (males, age 18-25)
• be working toward a degree or certificate
• be making satisfactory academic progress
• not owe a refund on a federal grant or be in default on a federal educational loan
• have "financial need" as determined in part by submitting the FAFSA

To be eligible for California grants, you must:

• be a resident of California
• have "financial need" based on the criteria for the Board of Governor's Enrollment Fee Waiver (BOGFW) or Cal Grant A, B, or C Program
• submit a GPA Verification to the California Student Aid Commission by March 2nd.

California Dream Act

Educational Preparation:

• you must have a high school diploma; or
• possess a General Education Development (GED) certificate or a California High School Certificate of Proficiency

Course of Study:

• enroll in a program of study leading to an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree
• enroll in a two year program that is acceptable for credit toward a Bachelor's Degree (Transfer course of study) at a 4-year college or university
• enroll in a career education certificate program

Meet Satisfactory Progress Standards:

• maintain a 2.00 Grade Point Average (GPA)
• maintain the required unit completion rate according to the Terms of Agreement Satisfactory Academic Progress Regulations for financial aid eligibility.
• Federal regulations require colleges to establish a maximum time frame during which students are eligible to receive financial aid.  Bakersfield College has established a maximum time frame of 90 attempted units.  Students are no longer maintaining satisfactory academic progress for financial aid after attempting 90 or more units whether or not financial aid was received.

LOSS OF ELIGIBILITY:

Academic progress for financial aid will be reviewed at the end of each semester.  Students receiving financial aid are expected to make satisfactory progress toward the completion of a degree or certificate according to the Terms of Agreement and Satisfactory Academic Progress Regulations.  

Students who fail to earn a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.00 and/or who fail to complete the required number of units will be placed on financial aid warning for one semester for the purpose of improving grades and/or making up deficient units.  You will continue to receive financial aid during a semester of warning. Failure to make satisfactory progress according to the terms of the period of warning will result in termination of financial aid.  Eligibility will not be reinstated until the Standards of Academic Progress are met.

• Students who have attempted 24 or more units and fail to complete at least 50% of the cumulative units attempted at any time during the academic year will be terminated from financial aid.
• Students who have less than a 2.0 GPA after two academic years of attendance, regardless of the students enrollment status, will be terminated from financial aid.(Two academic years are defined as four semesters. Summer session are not included in this definition.)
• Students who fail to meet the conditions of Financial Aid Warning will be terminated from financial aid.
• Students may appeal a termination of aid if the circumstance that caused the termination was the result of extreme/unusual circumstances. An appeal must be in writing, accompanied by supporting documentation. 
•  In order to regain eligibility, a student suspended from financial aid must make satisfactory progress according to the terms of the suspension notice.

REPAYMENT OF FUNDS: Repayment Information

Students who receive financial aid and completely withdraw from Bakersfield College are subject to repayment of funds received from Title IV programs.
