Applying for federal and state financial aid is free.  Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) once each year.  It is important that you file an application for the correct academic year. 
        2012-2013 includes Fall 2012, Spring 2013, Summer 2013

There are paper and online versions of the FAFSA, both available in English and Spanish.  Free help to complete the application is available at 1-800-4-FED-AID and at the BC Financial Aid office.  The FAFSA priority deadline for federal and state aid is March 2nd each year.

Bakersfield College will receive your FAFSA information if BC is listed as one of the ten schools.  Our school code is 001118.  After receiving your application, the BC Office of Financial Aid will contact you for additional information in order to complete your file.

HOW TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION

1.  FAFSA on the Web (Recommended)  is a fast and easy way to submit your application online.  Visit www.fafsa.ed.gov to find important information on how to apply on the web.  A downloadable Pre-Application Worksheet is available to help you prepare the responses.  If you don't already have a Department of Education PIN, apply for one now at www.pin.ed.gov.  The PIN may be used to sign your application electronically, review your Student Aid Report (SAR), make corrections if necessary, and to renew your application each year.  If you are a dependent student, your parents should also apply for a PIN so that they may electronically sign your FAFSA.

Cal Grants for California residents:   In addition to the FAFSA, you must file a verified grade point average (GPA) with the California Student Aid Commission no later than March 2nd (or by September 2nd, if you are a community college student).  GPA data will be sent electronically to the California Student Aid Commission for students who have completed 24 or more units at Bakersfield College. Check with our office to see if we have sent your GPA prior to completing a GPA Verification form. GPA Verification forms are available from the Office of Financial Aid or from high school counseling offices. 

Eligible AB540 students may apply for State grants by completing the Dream Act Application at https://dream.csac.ca.gov/
