Welcome to the Bakersfield College Enrollment and Registration Guide. This guide will help you through the important steps that each student must complete in order to get started at BC, and get an early registration appointment for each semester that you return.

This guide has information for New Students, Continuing Students and Former Students.

New Students

If you have received a two-year or higher degree from another school but are new to BC, you are exempt from the requirements for orientation, assessment and counseling. However, we encourage you to take advantage of any of these services you find helpful.

  1. Admissions Form:
    Submit completed admissions form online.
    Foreign students holding visas must contact the Admissions & Records Office at (661) 395-4301 for admissions procedures.
  2. Orientation:
    Students are expected to participate in an orientation session before assessment testing.

  3. Asessment:
    Assessment schedule
    You must participate in assessment if you plan to:
    • take an English, Math, or other class with prerequisites
    • earn a degree
    • earn a certificate
    • transfer

  4. New Student Workshop

  5. Registration
    Open web registration begins late in a semester for the following term. Check the important dates page for details.

Continuing Students

Enrolled in current semester classes

  1. Admission/update:
    Submit update online.
  2. Orientation:
    If you attended orientation, skip this step.
    If you never attended an orientation, you are expected to participate in orientation before assessment.
  3. Assessment:
    If you previously completed BC assessment, skip this step.
  4. New Student Workshop
    1. Online
    2. In-Person: Call the counseling office at (661) 395-4421
  5. Registration:
    Students who are fully matriculated and enrolled in classes on Monday of the third week of a semester will receive an appointment for early registration for the following semester.

Former Students

Enrolled in BC classes in the past but not in the current semester.

  1. Admission/update:
    If you attended BEFORE 1987: Complete admissions as for new students
    If you attended 1987 OR AFTER: Complete update as for continuing students
  2. Orientation:
    If you attended orientation, skip this step.
    If you never attended an orientation, you are expected to participate in orientation before assessment.
  3. Assessment:
    If you previously completed BC assessment, skip this step.
  4. New Student Workshop
    1. Online
    2. In-Person: Call the counseling office at (661) 395-4421
  5. Registration:
