Description: Designed to certify students as California State Emergency Medical Technicians and gain employment as a Firefighter or ambulance driver or ambulance attendant or law enforcement officer. After successful completion of this course, students will be authorized to take the Kern County EMS, California State Fire Marshal and/or the National Registry EMT examinations. Topics discussed include pre-hospital care terminology, cardiovascular emergencies, pre-hospital childbirth, communicable disease, extrication tools and equipment, automatic external defibrillation and an understanding of the emergency medical system. Correlated clinical experiences are provided with adult patients who have increasingly complex outcomes. The roles of Provider of Care, Manager of Care, and Member of the Profession are integrated and analyzed throughout the didactic and clinical experiences.
